Melas was first built as a light tower to help ships navigate the narrow channel from Arok Lake to the Gulf of Mayim. Not long after the light tower was built, Barthinians attacked. Through several negotiations, a treaty was reached between Melas and Barth. When Barth began pillaging small settlements in Northern Er’Rets, the town of Melas built a gate to keep the Barthinians from passing through. After Barth joined court during the reign of King Willham, Melas developed into a toll town, charging fare to any who wished to cross by land or sea. Despite the income the gates provide, the general population of Melas is destitute. The Neuma family is well known for endless banqueting while their people go hungry.
Their sigil is a torch on a midnight blue background.
