Rules in Brief
Contest dates: Contest opens May 11, 2015 at 12:01 a.m. US Pacific Standard Time (PST) and ends July 31, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. PST.
Who may enter: Contest is open only to artists under age 18. You must have permission from a parent or legal guardian to enter. Winners will be required to provide a parent or legal guardian’s written consent.
Divisions: Illustrations submitted to the Contest will be grouped and judged in the following divisions:
1. Elementary school: Grades 1-5,
2. Middle school: Grades 6-8, and
3. High school: Grades 9-12.
How to enter: All entries must be submitted in in a 300 DPI JPEG or JPG digital file format through the online entry form. Each entry must be entered in a specific chapter category. To enter, fill out the online entry form and attach your artwork. Fill out the form again for a different entry.
Entries must comply with the following requirements:
- All work must be created by the entrant, without the help of an adult.
- Images traced with the use of a projector or other mechanical means are prohibited.
- Entry must be a black and white illustration. This can be done in any media (pen & ink, charcoal, pencil, Photoshop, etc).
- Entry must be 300 DPI.
- Entry must be 8 ½ X 11 inches.
- Each student may submit only one entry per chapter category. The students may submit a different entry in another chapter category.
- The digital file(s) submitted will not be returned.
- Each entrant may submit up to ten entries, but only one per Chapter Category.
All entries must be submitted and received by July 31, 2015 at 11:59pm PST.
Rules in Detail
TERM
The RoboTales-Tinker Student Illustration Contest (“Contest”) begins May 11, 2015 at 12:01 a.m. US Pacific Standard Time (PST) and ends July 31, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. PST. All entries must be received by July 31, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. PST. Information on how to enter and prizes form part of these official rules (“Official Rules”). By submitting an entry, each entrant agrees to the Official Rules and warrants that his or her entry complies with all requirements set out in the Official Rules. This contest is skill-based, and chance plays no part in the determination of winners.
WHO MAY ENTER
Eligibility: Contest is open only to artists under age 18. You must have permission from a parent or legal guardian to enter this Contest. If selected as a Winner, you will be required to provide your parent or legal guardian’s written consent to your participation. If you fail to provide such written consent within three business days of the request then you may be disqualified and an alternate Winner would be chosen.

Your entry must comply with the following requirements (the “Guidelines for Artwork”):
- All work must be created (conceptualized, developed, and completed) by the entrant, without the help of an adult. By entering the Contest, entrant warrants that the submitted entry is an original work created solely by the entrant and that no other party has any right, title, claim or interest in the entry.
- Images traced with the use of a projector or other mechanical means are prohibited.
- Entry must be a black and white illustration. This can be done in any media (pen & ink, charcoal, pencil, Photoshop, etc).
- Entry must be 300 DPI.
- Entry must be 8 ½ X 11 inches.
- Each student may submit only one entry per chapter category. The students may submit a different entry in another chapter category.

- Each entrant may submit up to ten entries, but only one per chapter category.
Entries will be judged in accordance with the Judging Criteria, as defined below. All entries must be submitted and received by July 31, 2015 at 11:59pm PST. Proof of submission is not proof of receipt.
LICENSE
Each entrant retains the copyright to his or her entry, but explicitly grants Jill Williamson, her licensees, affiliates and their designees (collectively, the “Authorized Parties”) an irrevocable, nonexclusive license for the duration of copyright to use each entry for illustration in the RoboTales-Tinker book, advertising, marketing, and promotional purposes, in any and all media now known or hereafter created, including but not limited to publication in catalogs, brochures, blogs, and websites, at Authorized Parties’ discretion, without additional consideration, notification, permission to entrant or any third party.
CONTEST PRIZE
All winners will be required to sign the following: 1) An affidavit of eligibility and liability release; 2) a warranty of ownership and license; and 3) a publicity release, unless prohibited by law, within 14 days from the date of notice in order for Jill Williamson to award the prize. Noncompliance or return of prize notification as undeliverable may result in disqualification and selection of an alternate winner.
- Ten (10) Winners will be selected—three in each division and a tenth winner of the judges’ choice—all at the discretion of the judges. If there are Chapter Categories that receive no entries, a winner in that Chapter Category will not be chosen.
- Each winner will have his or her entry published in the RoboTales-Tinker ebook and print book. The winners will also receive five print copies of the book.
- Approximate retail value of Prize is US $40.
- Retail value of Prize may vary depending on fare fluctuations and other variables. Any difference between actual retail value of prize and the ARV will not be awarded.
- No prize transfer or assignment by winner permitted. No cash equivalent will be provided. Jill Williamson reserves the right to substitute prize in the event of unavailability.
- Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received and skill of the entrant.
JUDGING CRITERIA AND CONDITIONS
The contest consists of one round of evaluation. The judges will evaluate the entries based on the following criteria, and will select the winning entries by applying those criteria (“Judging Criteria”):
1. Creativity (50%)
2. Extent to which the entry interprets the described scene (50%)
All Winners will be contacted by Email and asked to submit a release form signed by a parent or legal guardian agreeing to the terms described herein. If Jill Williamson does not receive the signed parental release within three business days of Jill Williamson’s email request, the finalist may be disqualified, and an alternate winner may be chosen. Decisions of the Judges are final.
LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
Entrants agree to release, discharge, and hold harmless Jill Williamson and her partners, affiliates, subsidiaries, agents, employees, and representatives from any claims, losses, and damages arising out of their participation in this Contest or any Contest-related activities and the acceptance and use, misuse, or possession of any prize awarded hereunder.
Jill Williamson assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, or delay in operation or transmission; communications line failure; theft or destruction of or unauthorized access to Contest entries or entry forms; or alteration of entries or entry forms. Jill Williamson is not responsible for any problems with or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any e-mail entry to be received on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any Web site, human errors of any kind, or any combination thereof, including any injury or damage to entrants’ or any other persons’ computers related to or resulting from participation, uploading or downloading of any materials related to in this Contest.
CONDITIONS
This contest is void where prohibited. Entrants agree that this Contest shall be subject to and governed by the laws of the state of Oregon and the forum for any dispute shall be in the state of Oregon, United States of America. To the extent permitted by law, the right to litigate, to seek injunctive relief or to make any other recourse to judicial or any other procedure in case of disputes or claims resulting from or on connection with this Contest are hereby excluded and any entrant expressly waives any and all such rights. Certain restrictions may apply. Entries are void if Jill Williamson determines the entries not to be original, or if the entries are illegible, incomplete, damaged, irregular, altered, counterfeit, produced in error, obtained through fraud or theft or do not meet the eligibility criteria outlined above.
Participants also agree (a) to be bound by these Official Rules; and (b) that the decisions of the Judges is final on all matters relating to the Contest. All federal, state and local taxes, fees and surcharges on prizes are the sole responsibility of the prize winner. In the event that a selected winner of any prize is ineligible or refuses the prize, the prize will be forfeited and Jill Williamson, in her sole discretion, may choose whether or not to award the prize to another winner. Prizes may not be combined with any other offer.
RIGHT TO CANCEL OR POSTPONE CONTEST
If for any reason the Contest is not capable of running as planned, due to infection by computer virus, bugs, worms, trojan horses, denial of service attacks, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of Jill Williamson that corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of this Contest, Jill Williamson reserves the right, at her sole discretion, to disqualify any individual(s) who tamper with the entry process, and/or to cancel, terminate, modify, or postpone the Contest. If Jill Williamson elects to cancel or terminate the Contest, she will not retain any rights to the submitted entries.

DATA PRIVACY
Entrants agree that personal data, especially name and address, may be processed, shared and otherwise used for the purposes and within the context of the Contest and any other purposes outlined in these Official Rules. The data may also be used by Jill Williamson in order to verify the participant’s identity, postal address, telephone number, or to otherwise verify the participant’s eligibility to participate in the Contest. Participants have the right to access, review, rectify or cancel any personal data held by Jill Williamson by emailing her at: jill@jillwilliamson.com. Personal data will be used by Jill Williamson and her affiliates exclusively for the purposes stated herein.
