Picture description
For this chapter, you have several options. Read the scene below and look at the images for more inspiration.
- You could draw a picture of Dr. Fleed stomping Flea flat (or about to stop Flea).
- You could draw a picture of Robo rolling in front of Dr. Fleed to keep him away from Darius.
- You could draw a picture of Robo with his side growing hot to scare Dr. Fleed away. (I added a picture below to give you some ideas of how you can show heat in a black-and-white drawing.)
Have fun!
Excerpt from Chapter Ten of The Tiny Cyborg:
Darius, Robo, and Flea reached the space shuttle before Dr. Fleed. They boarded the ship and stood just inside the doors.
“When the door opens, Flea will distract Dr. Fleed,” Darius told Robo. “I need you to help me get my father out of the ship.”
Robo rolled to the other side of the doorway. He was ready. Darius typed on his keyboard, programming instructions for Flea.
When the door finally opened, Dr. Fleed pushed Father inside. “This wasn’t how I wanted things to go, Mr. President,” Dr. Fleed said. “You were meant to remain on the planet’s surface and out of my way. But your son had to meddle in my plans.”
“Darius is smarter than all of us,” Father replied.
“Not smarter than me,” Dr. Fleed said.
Darius pressed the Enter button, and Flea buzzed forward, right at Dr. Fleed’s ear.
Dr. Fleed swatted at Flea. “What is that? A fly? Shoo!”
Flea did not shoo. It continued to buzz around Dr. Fleed’s head. Robo rolled toward Dr. Fleed and knocked into the back of his legs. Dr. Fleed stumbled.
“Run, Father!” Darius yelled.
His father rushed out the door, holding it open with his hand. “Darius!” he yelled. “Hurry!”
Behind Father, soldiers rushed up and pulled him to safety, which caused the shuttle door to swish closed. Darius could hear his father yelling on the other side of the door. “My son! Darius is still in there!”
Dr. Fleed swatted at Flea, waving his arms in big arcs. Darius pressed against the wall to squeeze past. Before he could, Dr. Fleed knocked Flea to the ground and stepped on him.
The horrible crunch made Daruis gasp. “Flea!”
Dr. Fleed wheeled around to face Darius. “You have caused me a lot of trouble, boy.” He aimed his gun at Darius, but before he could stun him, Robo wheeled between them. Dr. Fleed scowled at the metal dog. “And so have you.” Dr. Fleed changed his aim to Robo, whose side had begun to turn red from heat.
“Stop that!” Dr. Fleed backed away. “Stop him, boy. What is he doing?”
Robo rolled closer to Dr. Fleed, which gave Darius the space he needed to reach the door. He paused and picked up his broken F.L.E.A. unit, then opened the shuttle door. The moment the doors swished open, Darius ran out, straight into his father’s open arms.
“Darius!” Father hugged him. “I was so worried.”
“Robo saved me.” Darius squirmed free and turned back to the shuttle door, but it was closed again. “Father, we have to help Robo.”
“The shuttle is leaving, sir,” a soldier told Father.
“I’m afraid it’s too late, son,” Father said.
Dr. Fleed
Fleed is tall, thin, and pale. He has wild hair that is white and wavy and sticks up like flames. He wears thick glasses, and a stubby nose. Here is how one student drew Dr. Fleed in a picture in Book 2.
