Today I start my official Countdown to Captives! This is a dystopian story about three brothers that was inspired by Daniel chapter one. It will release on April 2, 2013. I’m going to be giving away one ARC of the book each week until release day. These are advanced reader copies, and the final book did change some. But the story is basically the same.
Here’s the blurb:
One choice could destroy them all.
When eighteen-year-old Levi returned from Denver City with his latest scavenged finds, he never imagined he’d find his village of Glenrock decimated, loved ones killed, and many—including his fiancée, Jem–taken captive. Levi is determined to rescue what remains of his people, even if it means entering the Safe Lands, a walled city that seems anything but safe.
Omar knows he betrayed his brother by sending him away, but helping the enforcers was necessary. Living off the land and clinging to an outdated religion holds his village back. The Safe Land has protected people since the plague decimated the world generations ago … and its rulers have promised power and wealth beyond Omar’s dreams.
Meanwhile, their brother Mason has been granted a position inside the Safe Lands, and may be able to use his captivity to save not only his people, but also find a cure for the virus that threatens everyone inside the Safe Lands.
Can Mason uncover the truth hidden behind the Safe Land’s façade before it’s too late?

Emily Rachelle says
Um… my first dystopian was Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer, first of The Last Survivors trilogy. It was awesome. But so was The Hunger Games (Suzanne Collins), Matched (Ally Condie), and Swipe (Evan Angler) – all trilogies, ironically.
Jill Williamson says
I haven’t read Life As We Knew It. Sounds interesting. I’ve read the others, though. Loved them!
Jill says
Great trailer! Captives sounds really intriguing. My favorite dystopian novels are probably the Hunger Games, and The Giver.
Jill Williamson says
Love The Giver, Jill! Thanks for mentioning that one. 🙂
Brianna says
My favorite dystopian novel is Divergent by Veronica Roth, the first in an AWESOME trilogy.
😀 Can’t wait for Captives to come out!!
Jill Williamson says
Loved Divergent, Brianna. But book three isn’t out yet, is it? *scrambles to check on Amazon.com)
Abbi Hart says
I haven’t read an overabundance of dystopian but I like what I’ve read. I’d say my favorite is still The Hunger Games Series!
Jill Williamson says
It’s a good one, Abbi. I totally agree.
Sarah says
I haven’t really read a lot of dystopian books, but I do love Amanda Davis’s Cantral Chronicles.
Jill Williamson says
Must read Cantral Chronicles! Need time. LOL
Thanks, Sarah!
Nadine Brandes says
The first “official” dystopian novel I read was WE, by Yevgeny Zamyatin. It’s an older book written in 1924 and certainly did NOT spark a love for dystopian. As with much of the rest of the world, my spark for dystopian came with Hunger Games, though I really only liked the first one. Since then, I’ve read countless dystopian novels and my favorite, hands-down, is Cinder by Marissa Meyer. It’s a beautiful blend of science fiction, dystopian, and adventure with an underlying fairy-tale plot.
I can’t wait to read Captives! You’re by far my favorite speculative fiction Christian author (no brown-nosing intended, just pure honesty). Mixing your God-given writing with my favorite genre? Um…yes please!
Jill Williamson says
Interesting, Nadine. I’ve never heard of it. I’ve been dying to read Cinder. The cover is so perfect. Every time I see it I want it! *sigh* Need more time to read for fun. LOL
Thanks for the compliment, Nadine. You’re sweet. 🙂
Rachel K. says
Hunger Games would probably be my favorite dystopian novel so far. Not the series, just the first one. Catching Fire and Mocking Jay were disappointing.
Wow, the trailer is amazing. I would have to say it is one of the best I have seen. 🙂 I can’t wait to read Captives.
Jill Williamson says
Thanks, Rachel! I loved how the trailer came out.
HG is my fave of the trilogy too.
S says
Thanks of hosting this! Captives sounds really interesting.
I haven’t read many dystopian books but I did really like Karl Bastian’s novel, Order of the Ancient.
Jill Williamson says
Ooh, never heard of that one, S. I’ll have to check it out!
C says
I am really excited about this book! I already ordered a copy and it would be great to be able to share a copy with a friend!
Hate to pick something so popular… but I’d have to say Catching Fire. ;P
Thanks for sharing your ARCs with us!
Jill Williamson says
Thanks so much, C!
I liked Catching Fire too. Is that your fave of the trilogy?
Elizabeth L. W. says
Wow… That is one of the best trailers I’ve seen in quite a while! That was amazing!
Oh my goodness! Your book sounds like something I NEED!
I am still getting to know the Dystopian genre, and I haven’t ran across many that I would call my favorite. But I did just read The Maze Runner by James Dashner. It didn’t reveal itself as a dystopian until the end; but it was an amazing book! The writing was incredible and the characters were awesome! I haven’t ran across any Christian dystopian books. I would love to find some written in a Christian perspective! And yours sounds like a great place to start! 😀
Jill Williamson says
Thanks! Zondervan did a great job on it.
I enjoyed The Maze Runner as well, Elizabeth!
Alicia says
Sounds different! Would love to win a copy! When is the second book to the mission league coming?
Jill Williamson says
The second book in The Mission League comes out June 1st, Alicia. It’s called Project Gemini. 🙂
Emma Engel says
Hunger Games was my first dip into Dystopian fiction, but I think my favorites are Veronica Roth’s Divergent series and Amanda Davis’ Cantral Chronicles. But I will be excited to add a new title to my list of favorites!
Jill Williamson says
I liked Hunger Games and Divergent. Still haven’t read Amanda’s book, though I have it on my Kindle.
