Today is the official release day for Outcasts, book two in the Safe Lands series. I’m really proud of this book. I think it’s better than Captives. I hope you all like it. Click on the links below to view the books in various places. And if you read it, please consider posting an online book review.
Two things.
1. I’m having a release party here on my blog. I’ve got a nifty chat plugin I’ve been dying to test drive. I’m giving away various prizes to attendees, including a Kindle Fire. So pencil the party on your calendar for this Friday, January 10, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Pacific time. Hope to see you all there. My husband will be assisting again, so know that there will be lots of zany humor.
2. I have a present for you!
I told you all I’d write a short story, one that went through Omar’s head as he “drew” the two sketches that I had Carlo Garde draw. Well, I did this. But I did it Omar style.
It’s a comic book.
Before you get too excited, I’m telling you plainly, I am not an artist. This comic book thing seemed like a good idea at the time. But it was hard work for me. So have mercy on the non-Carlo pages, okay? I totally cheated, too, buy flipping through my husband’s old comic books and mimicking poses.
Artists: You amaze me. Seriously.
So here it is. Click on the link below to view the comic book online. And if you want to download it so you can read it on your computer or tablet, click the right mouse button and select “Save link as.”
Enjoy!
And if you’d like the second Carlo Garde page to color, click here to download that.
Tell me what you think in the comments. Hope to see you all on Friday!

Sadly, Friday is our big move day so I’ll be missing the party. Not sure our internet will even be connected that day. But since I won the ARC last week, I’d feel guilty winning anything else anyway! I hope you have a blast at the party.
But the comic was fun and I think you did a fantastic job! Especially if you don’t consider yourself an artist. (Are you sure? I especially liked page 7!)
Jill Williamson says
Thanks! Since I didn’t actually number the pages, I’m not sure which page you mean. If it’s the full-page one of the Owl fighting both guys in front of the crowd, that’s a Carlo page. But thank you, regardless. 🙂
I’m sorry you won’t be there! Moving is a lot of work! Thanks for reading the comic book.

Wow, I’m so excited about the book release, I’ve been waiting ever since I read the first book. I can’t wait to find out what happens to the characters!
Jill Williamson says
Thanks, Nissa! 🙂

I just got my copy yesterday!!! I am super excited to continue my journey in the safe lands. Hopefully I’ll join this Friday. I love your writing Jill and have enjoyed Replication, Mission league series (I’ve yet to read Project Gemini) and the Captives series.
Jill Williamson says
Thanks so much, Alicia! 🙂
A. G. says
Wow, you’re a pretty good artist. How long did it take you to do the whole thing? (I’m doing comic books this semester. Perks for being homeschooled!!)
Anyways, I’ll try to pop up at your party – might be busy that day.
Jill Williamson says
Thank you! It took me three days–whole days, from morning until late. A comic book class? That is a perk. I could have used that class! LOL
Georgina says
Yay! Congratulations, Jill. 🙂 I can’t wait to read my copy.
Fight Club is fantastic! I can tell you put a LOT of work into it. It looks great (and not just Carlo’s pages) and is a really fun story. I wonder how much of it reflects Omar’s reality…
Thanks so much for spending the time and effort to bring us this comic book! 😀 Very cool.
Jill Williamson says
You are welcome, Georgina! Thanks for reading it. 🙂
Pauline says
Awesome little comic book – and the coloring book page looked so pro! I’m excited for this story – LOVED Captives! I had pre-ordered this one the day after finishing Captives. 🙂
Jill Williamson says
Thanks, Pauline! 🙂
Rachel K. says
Amazing! There is no way I could have done anything close to that.
I think that Outcasts was better then Captives too. I loved that since the characters had already been introduced deeper sides of them could be shown.
Jill Williamson says
Thanks, Rachel! It’s often easier to write other books in a series for that very reason. It is hard to figure out who everyone is. Once you do that, the writing comes easier. 🙂
Leah E. Good says
Read all day yesterday and already finished. But the ending. Jill. So not fair. My brother’s threatening to wait till May to read it after hearing me griping. 😛
I’ll do my best to drop by Friday.
Jill Williamson says
Yes, I know. But that is what a book two is for. It must have a better hook than book one, so that people will come back for book three! And book three isn’t too far away. But I can relate to your brother. I usually don’t bother reading such a book until they’re all released. It’s just less stressful that way. *grin*

I should be there for the party! 😀 I loved the comic, Jill!! It was pretty neat!! And the drawings were AWESOME! ;D
Jill Williamson says
Thank you. What a lovely thing to say! I’m glad you liked it. 🙂
