I got the cover for my new young adult novel! This is the book I had called Jason Farms. It’s now called Replication: The Jason Experiment, and it releases from Zonderkidz in December 2011. What do you guys think of the cover? I hope it doesn’t scare girl readers away. I’ve had many teen girls read this already and like it.
Here is a little info about the story:
When Abby Goyer discovers her father is working in an underground cloning lab, she begins to have a serious moral dilemma … especially when one of the clones escapes and invades her world.
Martyr spent his entire life waiting for the day he would expireโhis death the only way to save mankind. But when he escapes from The Farm and befriends a beautiful redhead named Abby, Martyr begins to understand that his life has a different purpose.
Abby and Martyr embark on a twisting adventure as they try to outwit the scientists, solve the mystery of a missing high school teacher, and free the other Jasons before itโs too late.

Wow, it looks good! Hope to read it soon!

I think girls are more likely to pick up “boyish” covers than boys are to pick up “girlish” covers, if that helps any. Looks very, very cool!

The cover looks fantastic! I remember reading most of Jason Farms back in the crit group, and I loved it. I’m sure it will do well, even for the teen girls. Congratulations!

Jill, the cover looks great! Yeah, I remember that idea… did Zonderkidz come up with that on their own or did you suggest it? Too weird if they came up with it… LOL. Can’t wait to add this book to my shelf with your others!
Blessings,
Diana

Diana,
I gave them some pictures that I used on my one sheet, and one was of the back of a guy’s head–the head I used on the covers I made. But I didn’t give them the cover I made. I guess we were on the same wavelength, huh?
Leighton says
Fantastic cover, Jill! Simple, yet well designed.
Can’t wait to read it!!!

That sounds so cool. I will have to check it out when it releases.

I CAN’T WAIT FOR IT TO COME OUT!
I was wondering, what are your thoughts on self-publishing?
jwilliamsonwrites says
BookBlogger-
I went ahead and answered your self-publishing question on my TeenageAuthor blog. Here is the link to my answer. http://teenageauthor.wordpress.com/2011/06/29/qa-what-are-your-thoughts-on-self-publishing/

Interesting!
I noticed on Zondervan’s site that this book is coming out as a jacketed hardback. Is there any chance of it coming out as a paperback?
jwilliamsonwrites says
Ooh! Thanks, Ember! I hadn’t realized they had posted info on the Zondervan website yet. The book will only come out in paperback format if it sells enough copies in hardcover first. That’s how it works. I’m not sure how many copies it needs to sell for Zondervan to release a paperback version, but it needs to be a lot of copies! We’ll just have to wait and see.

Girls that read science fiction are not generally scared away by science fiction themed cover art. Were that the case I never would have picked up Asimov 35 years ago. Or Niven or…well…any of them.
It is a good cover. Simple and eye catching.
jwilliamsonwrites says
Thanks, Arlene! That’s good to know. ๐

You know, I think an absence of rainbows, kittens, unicorns and the color pink might actually contribute to drawing some girls in. ๐
jwilliamsonwrites says
I would be mortified if there was a rainbow, a kitten, or a unicorn on any of my bookcovers. I also hope I never get a pink cover. I don’t think I will, because I tend to write about guy main characters. So I think I’ll be safe there…
Arlene Green says
Ha! Good for you. ๐
