Sorry I haven’t been posting in the past month. The edits on book two took over my life! To Darkness Fled is over 600 pages, and editing it was no easy task. Now my editor has the novel again, and I have a few days to get caught up on other things before the book comes back to me.
So, of course, I read three books last weekend, my favorite of which was Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Here is my review:
In the ruins of what was once North America, The Capitol keeps its people in line by forcing them to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on National TV.
Sixteen-year-old Katniss is horrified when her little sister’s name comes up in the reaping. She rushed to the stage, volunteering to take her sister’s place. Twenty-four boys and girls enter, only one survives. How will Katniss fare in the Hunger Games? And how could she possibly kill Peeta, a boy who once saved her life?
I had to read this, as so many others were, and I was not disappointed. A clever premise in today’s world of reality TV shows. What if your nation forced its people to participate in such a gladiator-like event? It’s a bit of an appalling premise, really, knowing that you’re going to read a book where twenty-three teenagers will be killed. Suzanne Collins does a good job toning down the violence and focusing on her characters, Katniss and Peeta.
I was intrigued to see Katniss go through this process. How she, and some of the other contestants, had good hearts and refused to give in to The Capitol’s merciless and controlling ways. It’s a very entertaining, action-packed story. I’d like to read book two, but since book three doesn’t come out for a while, I may hold off a bit.
Anyone else read this? What did you think?

Stunning Book!!! I’m not as thrilled with the second book, “Catching Fire,” but HG was AMAZING! Jill you must must MUST read “The Knife of Never Letting Go.” You must!!!! If you never read another book after it, that would be okay–cause it’s the BOMB!
I’m going to Mount Hermon this year. Are you? It won’t be the same without you. 🙁

No. I saved up for ACFW this year. Have to try them all once. I’m thinking of saving up for Mount Hermon again next year, though. I LOVE that conference. I’m in Portland right now teaching 7th and 8th graders about writing. On the drive, I listened to the CDs I bought at conference and one CD was Jeff talking about spec fiction in 2007 and you were in the class and asked a question and Jeff talked about Willow Door. LOL! It was like going back in time.
What track are you taking at Mount Hermon? How are you???
And what is The Knife of Never Letting Go about?

The Knife of Never Letting Go is amazing! I can’t tell you what it’s about other than it’s about a boy coming of age in a town with no females. I don’t want to ruin any of the surprises the book throws at you, though, so I can’t say too much. I’ve never read anything like it! The next book, The Ask And The Answer, is just as stunning. I’m faunching at the bit right now to read the final instalment.
Missed you at Mt Hermon! That’s so funny about the CD! LOL… I’d love to hear it…hehe… Man, that was forever ago.
