I live pretty far out in Eastern Oregon. So any drive is usually a long one. It takes about 3.5 hours to get to Boise, 3 hours to Bend, and 5 hours to Portland. My favorite drive is the one I take to Portland. I weave my way through Kimbery, Fossil, and Condon. And I meet the Columbia at Biggs.
The drive it gorgeous, in my opinion. Last year I stopped along my drive and took lots of pictures.

As lovely as the drive is, nothing compares to coming around that last corner of Highway 97 as the hills of Washington come into view, then the Columbia River. It’s awesome. The rest of the drive, along the Columbia Gorge, is some of the most beautiful scenery I’ve ever seen. I wish I could find a place to stop along the freeway and take pictures. But all I can do is marvel at God’s amazing talent. Here is one I found online that captures the beauty.
Multnomah Falls is one of my favorite places on the planet. I always try to stop and gaze at the beauty of the waterfall. I’ve hiked all the way to the top and looked down at the water running over the edge. I love this place.
How about you? What are some of your favorite places on earth?

Gorgeous pictures, Jill. Thanks for sharing. I’ll have to think about that question – favorite places on earth. Eugene Peterson speaks of the importance of “place” – even the dusty little biblical towns that were important enough to name. That has affirmed my soul-connection to the imaginary places that anchor my fiction.
Almost jealous of your Oregon writers’ conference – good names!

Oh my. These are great pictures. The one of the water fall is my favorite.
My favorite places: Sedona, AZ and the Grand Caymen Islands. There are more, I’m sure, but those are the two that spring up first in my head when anyone asks.
Their beauty just inspires me!

Cool, Lynn! I wish I could go to the Caymens.
Maybe someday…

Hey Jill,
Beautiful pics! I hope you are doing great. Your writing seems to have taken off and you are even teaching at ACFW aren’t you? Way to go girl!

Hi, Jill! I am teaching a workshop at ACFW. I’m excited. Hopefully some people will find it helpful. Will you be there? I just got back from OCW. James Scott Bell was the keynote speaker. It was so fun to see him again. Hope you are doing good. When do your books come out?

Isn’t Oregon great?! We lived in The Dalles for 2 years as newlyweds and that is such a gorgeous drive up the Gorge. So glad you’re here in little John Day!
