Last Thursday, I embarked on an adventure.
First stop, the homeschool convention in Nampa, Idaho. I sat at a booth for Marcher Lord Press and told people all about the cool new homeschool workbook my editor, Jeff Gerke, and his friend, Mary Agius, have written. It’s a one-semester creative writing course for a high school homeschool student. And it goes right along with Jeff’s Art & Craft of Writing Christian Fiction book. So if you are interested, check it out on the Marcher Lord Press website.
After the homeschool convention, I got on a plane to Denver. Then I got on an even smaller plane that went to Wyoming. This little plane only sat 20 people! Marcher Lord Press author, Steve Rzasa, had invited me to the Johnson County Library to speak at their first teen summer reading program event. Turns out I was the first author the Johnson County Library has ever had come speak. I feel quite tall about that. 🙂
(FYI- Steve Rzasa wrote an awesome science fiction story about a guy who finds a Bible in a future where Bibles are against the law. It’s an awesome book. If you have not read it yet, you must! See the Novel Teen book review of The Word Reclaimed here to learn more.)
I had a lot of fun at the library. I talked about how I became a writer and how I came up with my story. I met a couple girls who’d already read By Darkness Hid and liked it. So I had to get a picture with them. Then we all got to have root beer floats and cookies. Food is good!
Whenever I was in my hotel room in Wyoming, I working on From Darkness Won. On the way home, one of my flights got delayed, which caused me to miss my connecting flight. I got stuck int he Denver airport for thirteen hours! It was such a LONG TIME! I put the time to good use, though. I put in about 8000 words on From Darkness Won. That’s about 30 double-spaced pages in Microsoft Word! (Sweetness!) I am quite pleased with the progress made. The Denver airport also had free wireless internet, so I was able to entertain myself with Twitter and Facebook and sarcastic emails regarding my time in holding.
I finally made the flight to Boise. But it was midnight when I got to my car, so I crashed another night at my friends’ house and got up eary to drive the three hours back to John Day. I love going on these writer adventures. I love meeting readers and talking about writing. But I also love being home. I missed my family and was so happy to be with them again.
Just another week in the life of a writer. This job is always an adventure.

I hope you’re talking about a Johnson County Library in Wyoming. ‘Cause if you were talking about the one in KS, I’d do a flip.
I LIVE in Johnson County, KS. 😀

Jill, you can tag along with me after ACFW and I’ll take you on vacation with my family to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter if you REALLY want to go to Florida! haha

YES! I want to go there. We are planning a Florida trip in 2012. A Disney Cruise and the Full Orlando Experience. We are saving up, becuase these things are not cheap. It will be the once-in-a-lifetime Disney Cruise. And we’re doing the Full Orlando Experience because we’re there already and my friend has a timeshare in Orlando. I want to hear all about it, though. I want to see pictures.
