Here is a funny ending to two teen writer’s attempts at increasing their word counts. They had a 12-hour race to see who got in more words. The one with the least amount of words had to film himself eating a grasshopper. Now that’s motivation to get typing, don’t you think?
Here is J. P. Parker’s video. (J. R. Parker is the teen author of Kestrel’s Midnight Song.)

Oh man I would never be able to do that…:P But that was a funny challenge and video. I think it’s great that you both got above 10000 words. That’s a LOT of words. 🙂
I love this video… Jake, my brother, showed it to me once before. 🙂
‘Tis good to be adventurous with food… most of the time. 😉
I’ve had chocolate covered ants, but never a chocolate covered grasshopper… >_>
Poor grasshopper. RIP
But it was very funny. I liked the mental preparation he had to go through before eating it. 🙂
Nom :}
Ooh, good idea. 🙂 That was hilarious! I’m impressed with the word-count too–the most I ever did in twelve hours was the last day of Nanowrimo, a total of 8,106 words. On the one hand, those words were all actually used in the story, not panicked babbling about monkeys and slugs . . . on the other hand, I’ve never gotten to 10,000 in one day.
Hmmm . . . did they actually do the rematch on the 15th? Because Chris the absent E-zine writer and notorious Pirate Baron singing with gusto a (no-doubt silly) song by Jacob Parker would definitely be a sight to see . . . 🙂
As a side-note, I finally read Kestrel’s Midnight Song last month and it stunned me with its genius! Goes on my list of top-favorite books, though it was over too soon – Jacob, we demand a sequel! Please? 🙂
Anyway, thanks for posting the video, Jill!
Best,
D. S. Dahnim
DS,
They did not do the rematch. Chris had something that he had to do on that day. I’ll tell them we’re all demanding a rematch! LOL
I’ll also make sure that Jacob knows you are demanding a sequel to Kestrel. I am with you there, DS. I want to read the next book too.
🙂
Jill
I haven’t read it yet but thought it sounded interesting. Know I will have to read it.
It should have been alive….
That would have been cruel and unusual punishment. And torrture for the grasshopper. Maybe just the lack of chocolate would have sufficed. I mean, why waste good chocolate. 🙂
Ha! Thanks for posting, Jill! And thanks for your comments, everyone. I’m glad you enjoyed it!
DS, I’m working on continuing with the characters from Kestrel’s Midnight Song, but the setting won’t be what readers are expecting. And Micah has reached the end of his adventuring days, I’m pretty sure. Poor guy.
And to all, we are working on scheduling the next Word War. It will be soon, I hope.
Ha. Yes, Jacob, SEQUEL! Love that book.
And a rematch as well. 🙂 Singing is a pretty good incentive, if you ask me… I’m a horrible singer. XD
The mental preparation was hilarious. He had to watch a part where the grasshopper was being cruel to an ant so he could get up the guts to actually eat it….
Brilliant.
