I have been gone, adventuring, hanging out with authors, playing. It was a nice time away. First I went to the Oregon Christian Writer’s Conference. I attend this conference every year. I sold my first book there, met my agent there, taught my first writer’s workshop, and sold my newest book to Zonderkidz there too. It’s a great conference, and I wouldn’t miss it.
I got to room with two wonderful women. One was a critique partner I’ve known for years, and the other was a teen writer. I had so much fun with both of them. I can’t believe we never took a picture of the three of us!
I took Jim Rubart‘s morning class on marketing and learned a lot. Jim is a lot of fun to listen to, and he’ll be keynoting next summer’s conference. (Bonus!) Mindy Starns Clark and Susan May Warren keynoted the evening services. They were both wonderful speakers, who shared a lot of wisdom. I also got to meet Marcher Lord Press author Mitchell Bonds–hysterical. Mitch is a creative, funny guy. Now, go read his books. 🙂
I also got to hang out with Jeff Gerke and Randy Ingermanson–always a treat. I saw many friends and made many new ones, like Caleb and Brittany Breakey and Kayla Ousley.
Then it was over… wah! And I headed off to Vancouver for a vacation with my family. We hung out with my inlaws for a few days, then packed up my father-in-law’s Mustang convertible and drove to the coast for a few days. We went as far south as Tillamook and as far north as Long Beach. We ate Tillamook cheese, saw Jake the Alligator Man, the Goonies House and Jail, Fort Columbia, Clatsop, Stevens, and Canby, Astoria Tower, two lighthouses, a shipwreck, and many different beaches. It’s a fun place to explore.
And now we are back home. School starts tomorrow for my kids, which means that I’m back to work!
