Welcome to the Lost At Sea Scavenger Hunt!
You’ve found Stop #1!
To celebrate the release of King’s Blood, I am taking my characters through a land of lands in search of a place they can call home. I hope you’ll have fun as you follow their journey.
Start on this post and read through each blog post on the hunt. There are 19 stops. Please follow them in order so that you can collect all the red clue words and enter your answer on the Rafflecopter form at Stop #19 for a chance to win the Kindle. If you want to enter to win the second Kindle, you’ll have to take a quiz at the end, so take your time and read each post carefully. The main prizes at Stop #19 are open to international entries. Also, many of the participating authors are running their own giveaways on their blogs, so keep an eye out for more ways to enter to win. Individual author contests, however, might have different entry rules, so please read the parameters on each site.
There is no reason to hurry through the hunt. Take your time. You have until Sunday night, February 19, at midnight, Pacific time to finish. Enjoy each stop and learn all about the different storyworlds and the books that go with them. Hopefully you’ll add a lot of new titles to your TBR booklist.
If you need help or get lost along the way, click here for assistance.
Hello, everyone!
I’m Jill Williamson, a chocolate loving, daydreaming, creator of kingdoms and the award-winning author of several young adult books including The Blood of Kings trilogy, Replication, The Mission League series, The Safe Lands trilogy, and The Kinsman Chronicles. I live in the Pacific Northwest with my husband and two children and a whole lot of rain.
This scavenger hunt is to celebrate the release of King’s Blood, book two in my Kinsman Chronicles trilogy. Here’s a little bit about the series:
The Kinsman Chronicles is an epic fantasy saga that follows the Hadar family in a story of survival, sacrifice, and courage as one world crumbles and another rises up in its place. This series is an ancient prequel to the Blood of Kings trilogy and takes place about five hundred years before Achan was born. This is an Old Testament-like world, so it’s darker and so are many of the characters who live in this time. Because of that, I recommend the book for readers aged 16 and up. These are not young adult novels, nor are they quick reads. This is a multi-point of view epic fantasy story. Think Lord of the Rings, The Belgariad, Wheel of Time, The Farseer trilogy, the Stormlight Archive, and other series in which the books are super long with complex plots and tons of characters.
Many have asked me how this series relates to my Blood of King’s trilogy. The picture below shows the years in which each series takes place.
Here’s a little bit about book two, King’s Blood:
In the second volume of Jill Williamson’s Kinsman Chronicles, a remnant has escaped the destruction of the Five Realms and now lives on several hundred ships adrift at sea. As a flock, they sail north into the unknown in hopes of finding land that might become their new home.
As the king’s illness worsens, Sâr Wilek takes authority over the expedition and struggles to rule the disjointed people, while assassination attempts, vicious serpents, and dark magic endanger his life.
One prophecy has come to pass, but another looms dauntingly in the future. Who is this Deliverer? And if the Magonians have him, what might that mean for the realm of Armania?
And here is what some are saying about the series:
“Williamson (The Blood of Kings trilogy) crafts a complex and vividly portrayed epic fantasy [in King’s Folly] reminiscent of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series but less edgy and with a Christian worldview. Loosely following the events in the Old Testament, the author depicts a society in which paganism and superstition are deeply ingrained prior to the coming of the Savior.” —Library Journal
“[King’s Folly, book one] is an intense drama of biblical proportions…Wilek, Mielle, and Trevn in particular are intriguing, and the ending leaves readers wondering what adventures await this group of young people searching for truth.”–RT Book Reviews
“Williamson’s mesmerizing writing and intriguing characters make this second series entry (after King’s Folly) a must-read for epic fantasy fans.” —Library Journal review of King’s Blood
About the storyworld
SPOILERS!
Book one left my characters in boats, adrift at sea and searching for a place to call home. So, most of King’s Blood book takes place aboard ships, and the flagship of House Hadar is the Seffynaw.
The flagship Seffynaw is a three-masted great ship built of 500 evergold trees. She has high castles in the bow and stern and a low waist of open deck in the middle. The hull has four levels separated by three decks. The castles of the Seffynaw have additional decks, with the foredeck in the bow and the quarterdeck and stern deck in the aft. She is driven by whipstaff.
Her hull is painted bright blue and covered in carved, multi-colored figures of Thalassa, seabirds, fish, serpents, and wave women. The posts along the inner rails of the stern deck, quarterdeck, and forecastle are each carved in a figure of one of the Rôb Five and intricately painted. Her masts fly elongated ceremonial streamers, except on the main mast, which holds the flag of Armania.
With so many passengers, she sits low on the water like a fat tub stuffed with treasure. Commoners crowd the quarterdeck, most of them sitting in circles on blankets as if enjoying a picnic. All were refugees, fully reliant on the Seffynaw and her crew to keep them afloat. They each lived on the small piece of deck they occupied. No more, no less. Sâr Trevn, the youngest Hadar prince, knows that such a crowded ship is a pending disaster, though it cannot be helped at present. The Seffynaw has enough water to last three months, food to last even longer. They can catch fresh rainwater, should it rain, and fish for more food, but should the rain not come and the fish not bite, will they find land in time?
