A question from Robert: What are my chances of getting published before college? During college?
If you’ve worked very hard and have written an outstanding novel, your chances of getting published as a high school or college student are strong. Learning to write isn’t as easy as doing it. It takes most authors years to learn the craft of writing and to rewrite a story until itโs worthy of publication. You don’t have to major in English to write novels, but you do need to learn the rules. Read books on the writing craft. Go to writer’s conferences and discover what it takes to get published. It is a lot of work. But I know two teens who have published their stories the traditional way–not the self-publishing way. (See this interview with one such author.) So it can be done with hard work.
