Here is a drawing I made of Sitna manor. I am not the best artist, but I find it very helpful to sketch the layout of buildings or towns in which my characters will spend a lot of time. This helps me see how the ideas in my head actually fit on land, or paper, and it helps me when I need to describe how far things are from one another or what sounds, smells, and sights my characters might see as they move from one place to another.
If you are an author, have you ever sketched out a building or town? What other things have you done to help make your storyworld more realistic?

You are too a good artist! This is really great Jill! I’m impressed and am looking forward to reading both of your books! They are next on my Kindle roster! 😉

Thanks, Carol!
You must read a lot on your Kindle. I love mine, but I have too many review books waiting for me to read to spend too much time with my Kindle. 🙁

Wow, that is a great drawing. I’ve drawn maps of the world to get an idea about my characters’ travels and such. I’ve sketched a few castles, but nothing as good your picture. I have heard good things about your books and I have placed them on my to-read list. Congrats by the way about your nomination, that is really cool.

Thank you, Jennette. 🙂 I like to draw maps the most. What kind of story are you writing?
Jennette says
Yeah, maps are the best. 🙂 but i might try to improve upon my castle drawing. One day I would love to build a minature castle like those doll houses of sorts… My story is about a half-elf named Kael and a young woman named Ayianna who must find a tonic that will release Ayianna’s mother and the plains people from a curse before the sorceress releases the evil goddess from the underworld. It’s a trilogy and the first book has seen an abundance of red ink, but I’m getting closer 🙂 So… Do you like the kindle? I’ve been thinking about getting one when I’ve got money enough to buy it and the books.

Your story sounds cool.
I do like my Kindle. It’s really cool. I’ve got about 100 books on it already.
I still like paper books, though.
Jennette says
Thanks 🙂 I love the feel of books as well as reading them, it’s part of the experience. and the smell of new books…oh yeah, and walking into a bookstore that has a coffee shop. But I think a Kindle would be good later on, especially if I can download my manuscript I’m working on to read through and possibly make notes on it.
novelteen says
Jennette, I’ve downloaded my manuscript to my Kindle, but there really isn’t a good way to make notes on it. I had to make notes by hand. Still, it was so much nicer than sitting at the computer. I do that enough. 🙂

Cool. I thought I read an agent blog that said something about annotations or something. If I find the article I’ll send it your way. I guess that would be better than going to kinkos and printing it out, bound… Maybe by the time I actually get a Kindle they will have developed something for that. 🙂
